Back for Seconds: “Dine Out For Blythedale Children’s Hospital” Returns on Tuesday, October 22, 2019

65+ restaurants in Westchester, Hudson Valley, NYC & Connecticut
to raise money for medically complex kids

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Blythedale Children’s Hospital, New York’s only independent, specialty children’s hospital and one of only 14 pediatric specialty hospitals in the U.S, announces the 2nd Annual Dine Out For Blythedale Children’s Hospital fundraiser to be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.

The full-day event is comprised of 65+ participating restaurants from Westchester, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange, and Ulster counties, New York City as well as parts of Connecticut. Each restaurant will donate a portion of their proceeds to support the care and treatment of Blythedale’s medically complex children in the “Tiny Miracles Program”, which serves the Hospital’s smallest and most fragile babies.

“It’s a pleasure to once again lead this special event as we raise critical funds for the care and treatment of medically fragile infants,” said Dine Out Chair Waldy Malouf, senior director of Culinary Institute of America.  “Grab a reservation and become a part of the Blythedale Difference.”

“As one of twelve kids, I always felt fortunate that we were born without any major health challenges, “said Dine Out Co-Chair Peter X. Kelly of The Xaviar’s Restaurant Group.  “But for families who do need help caring for their medically fragile children, Blythedale is the place to be.  That’s why I’m supporting their profound work and asking everyone to join me for Dine Out for Blythedale Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, October 22, and support this noble cause.  Let’s make the lives of families and patients just a little bit better, together.”

“For the second straight year, restaurants from across the region and beyond, are stepping up,” said Robert R. Lane, Senior Vice President, Chief Development Officer of Blythedale Children’s Hospital. “With something as simple as going out to eat with family and friends on Tuesday, October 22, you can help a great cause and change the lives of medically complex kids.”

“More than 60% of our patients are under the age of three and many come to us from the neonatal intensive care units from the New York metropolitan region,” said Larry Levine, President and CEO of Blythedale Children’s Hospital. “The proceeds from ‘Dine Out’ will help this important inpatient program continue to grow and flourish.”

On May 29, 2018, smiles and smoothies were plentiful at Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y. for the kickoff of the 1st Annual “Dine Out For Blythedale” fundraiser.

Celebrity chef, restaurateur and event chair, Waldy Malouf, welcomed patients from the Hospital’s Inpatient and Day Hospital Units, parents and staff to the inaugural event.

Donning a purple “Dine Out” apron, Chef Malouf flipped the fun switch and showcased his skills to create blended beverages with healthy fruits and vegetables during a cooking demonstration.

“We’re here promoting an event we’re doing on October 23, 2018, called ‘Dine Out For Blythedale’ featuring participating restaurants from Westchester, Dutchess, the Hudson Valley, Capital Region and beyond,” said Chef Malouf, a graduate and current Senior Director of Food and Beverage Operations at The Culinary Institute of America. “All you have to do is go out to eat, have fun and then the restaurants will donate a portion of the proceeds to this great hospital.”

The money raised will support the care and treatment of Blythedale’s medically complex children, specifically, the “Tiny Miracles Program”, which serves the Hospital’s smallest and most fragile babies.

Larry Levine, President and CEO of Blythedale Children’s Hospital, emphasized the importance and vital need for this special event. “About 50% of our patients are under the age of one and many come to us from the neonatal intensive care units from the New York metropolitan region,” he said. “The proceeds from ‘Dine Out’ are going to this important inpatient program to help it continue to grow and flourish.”

Special thanks to Chef Hector Rodriguez, Manager of Blythedale’s Café, and the Hospital’s Child Life, Clinical Nutrition and Development Departments.
